Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart and Cairns are just a few of the vibrant and diverse cities found in Australia.  Sydney ‘s Harbor, ranked the most beautiful harbor in the world, is a site not to be missed. Catch a show at the opera house, climb the famous Harbor Bridge and take a harbor cruise for the best views. Our favorite way to see Sydney Harbor is from a cruise ship.

Tours to Uluru Rock Australia

Seeing Uluru up close surreal—its massive, red-hued beauty is  breathtaking, especially at sunrise or sunset when it seems to glow. Beyond the stunning view, learning about its deep cultural significance to the Aboriginal people makes the experience truly unforgettable. What is the transportation like in Australia?
How do I get around in Australia?
Australia is a vast country with a variety of transportation options, making it easy for visitors to explore its cities, landscapes, and remote areas. Here's a quick guide to help you plan your travels around the country:

Domestic Flights
Given the large distances between cities, domestic flights are the fastest way to travel long distances in Australia. Major airlines like Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Jetstar offer extensive connections between key cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Cairn and Adelaide. Flights are also available to regional destinations, providing access to places like Darwin, Alice Springs, and Tasmania.

Scenic Train Journeys
Australia boasts a few iconic train routes that offer stunning views of the countryside. The Indian Pacific runs between Sydney and Perth, crossing the vast Nullarbor Plain, while the Ghan connects Adelaide to Darwin through the Red Centre, offering a glimpse of the rugged Outback. For shorter trips, regional trains and services like the XPT (Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane) are reliable options.

Car Rentals
Renting a car is a great way to explore Australia's more remote and scenic areas, however you need to proceed with caution. Keep in mind that taking a road trip along the Great Ocean Road or exploring the vast Outback offers unparalleled flexibility, distances can be significant, and fuel stations may be scarce in remote regions. Always plan your routes and carry essentials, especially for longer drives.

Public Transport in Cities
Major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane have well-developed public transport systems.
Sydney features trains, buses, ferries, and a light rail system, with the Opal card offering easy, cashless travel. Melbourne is famous for its trams, alongside buses and trains. Brisbane has a reliable network of buses, trains, and ferries as well. These systems are efficient for getting around urban areas, and fares are usually affordable.

Travel Passes and Long-Distance Planning
If you're planning an extended stay, look into travel passes like the Greyhound Whimit Pass or rail passes for cost-effective, flexible travel. Australia's vast landscapes mean you’ll need to account for long travel times, whether you're flying, driving, or taking the train. Proper planning is essential to make the most of your trip.
Are Australia Beaches Safe?
Australia’s beaches are some of the most stunning beaches on the planet. Beauty doesn’t always mean safety however. Use common sense and stay safe from dangerous sea life and protect yourself from the sun. I always make sure to pack plenty of water, slap on some SPF50+ sunscreen, and throw on a hat and sunglasses to protect myself from the strong Australia sun. Avoiding peak sun hours (10 am to 4 pm) is also a must.

The number one beach safety tip is to stick to patrolled beaches with the red and yellow flags that indicate this beach is guarded by lifeguards. The Beachsafe App is so handy for finding these beaches so refer to that before heading out to a remote beach. Also, be super cautious about rip currents. Remember, if you get caught, stay calm, float, raise an arm for help, or swim parallel to the shore if you can.

Oh, and don’t forget about marine animals! Australia is well-known for beaches with dangerous sea life including deadly jellyfish. Check for warning signs, walk into the water slowly, and wear protective gear if needed. Don’t put your life or your fun at risk. Check apps like SunSmart and Beachsafe so you’re in the know.

When is the best time to visit Australia?
The best time to travel to Australia largely depends on what you want to experience, as the country offers something unique year-round. Summer (December to February) is perfect for beach lovers, with warm weather ideal for exploring iconic destinations like the Great Barrier Reef or Bondi Beach. If you're into festivals, this is when events like Sydney's New Year's Eve celebrations light up the season. On the other hand, winter (June to August) offers cooler temperatures, making it prime time to visit the Outback or explore the northern regions like Darwin and Kakadu National Park, where the dry season means fewer mosquitoes and great wildlife spotting. Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) bring pleasant weather and fewer crowds, which means hiking in the Blue Mountains or wine tasting in the Barossa Valley is especially enjoyable. With such a diverse climate and landscapes to choose from, every season in Australia brings a unique adventure!
